The international scientific and practical journal «Chrezvychaynye situatsii: obrazovanie i nauka» («Emergency Situations: Education and Science») was founded in 2006 by the higher educational institution «Gomel Engineering Institute» of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus (now the Gomel branch of the University of Civil Protection of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Belarus) and distributed on the territory of the Republic of Belarus and beyond its borders. The journal was published every six months, during its existence 20 issues were published. In 2016, in connection with the reorganization of higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Belarus, the journal was included in the scientific journal «Journal of Civil Protection».
The journal published articles of native and foreign scientists on a wide range of problems related to the prevention and elimination of emergency situations and the training of specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus.
By the decision of the Board of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus No. 28/12 of December 19, 2007, the journal is included in the List of scientific publications of the Republic of Belarus for release of the results of dissertational research in technical sciences (Human life safety).
The journal is registered in the State Register of Mass Media and is included in the database of the Russian Scientific Citation Index (RSCI).
