Abstract

Purpose. Investigation of some types of industrial dusts of plant and animal origin to assess their potential fire and explosion hazard.

Methods. To achieve this goal, modern experimental research methods were used, including laser particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy with a chemical analysis system, and Fourier infrared spectroscopy.

Findings. The review of the state of the problem in the field of fire safety at enterprises with dust-forming production both in our country and abroad is carried out. The results of experimental studies of the granulometric composition, shape and size of particles, microstructure, elemental and qualitative composition of pulverized materials of food production are carried out, allowing to give a preliminary assessment of their fire and explosion hazard.

Application field of research. Fire safety of technological processes in which dust-like substances and materials are handled, separated, stored or processed.
